Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you're joining us for your first session or returning for another visit, here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
Facials
Yes, stress significantly alters your skin's appearance and health. When anxious, your body releases cortisol, which spikes oil production (causing breakouts), triggers inflammation (worsening eczema and psoriasis), and breaks down collagen (leading to premature wrinkles).
For signs of aging, try our Power Anti-Aging Facial or our Microcurrent Facial.
Our Signature facials and mini facials are best for dry or sensitive skin.
Massage
Yes, massage is highly effective for exercise recovery. It works by decreasing inflammation, improving blood flow to carry fresh nutrients to muscle tissue, increasing circulation, and significantly alleviating delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS).
Yes, massage can help relieve stress by shifting your nervous system into a deeply relaxed state and lowering physical tension in your body.
Swedish massage focuses on relaxation, while deep tissue massage targets chronic muscle tension and pain. The primary difference lies in the pressure used and the layers of muscle the therapist targets. Swedish massage uses light-to-medium pressure to relax the surface muscles, while deep tissue massage uses firm pressure to reach deeper muscle layers and connective tissues.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture generally does not hurt. Because the needles are solid and as thin as a single strand of hair, you usually only feel a tiny prick when the skin is broken. Afterward, patients typically experience mild sensations like gentle warmth, dull pressure, tingling, or a deep sense of heaviness.
Keep in mind that pain levels vary depending on the area being treated. More sensitive spots like your hands or feet might feel slightly more tender, while fleshy areas like your back are often less sensitive. The discomfort is widely considered to be much less intense than getting a standard blood draw or a vaccine. Many people even fall asleep during their treatment.
If you feel sharp or uncomfortable pain during a session, you can always tell your acupuncturist so they can adjust or remove the needle.
Acupuncture is most commonly used to manage chronic and acute pain (like back pain, joint pain, and neck pain) as well as nausea associated with surgery or chemotherapy. It is also frequently utilized to treat headaches, fibromyalgia, and menstrual cramps.
Most people need 3 to 6 sessions to notice a clear, meaningful change in their symptoms. However, the exact timeline depends entirely on whether your condition is sudden (acute) or long-standing (chronic).
Acupuncture results are cumulative—each session builds on the last. You might notice "secondary" improvements first, like better sleep, reduced stress, or higher energy, before your main complaint disappears.
Yoga Classes
Absolutely! At Serasana, we offer a welcoming environment for beginners. Our thoughtful instructors guide you through each pose, allowing you to build confidence and enjoy the journey of yoga at your own pace. For beginners, we suggest Yin Yoga, Gentle Yoga, or Restorative Yoga for lovely, slow-paced, and meditative classes. Feeling self-conscious about being a beginner? We understand. Every student in our classes was once a beginner. We do not have mirrors in our studios, so our students can be on their mats, in their own bodies, and breathe without external distractions, and focus on what is happening internally.
We offer a variety of yoga styles to cater to different preferences and goals. We are not a heated studio. We believe in allowing the body to heat itself naturally. Our offerings at Serasana Southwest Austin range from Power Yoga to a yummy evening Candlelight Restorative, helping you shake off the day’s stress and prepare for a good night’s sleep. Whether you're looking for a vigorous flow or a more restorative experience, we have the right class for you.
Just bring yourself and a positive mindset! We recommend wearing comfortable workout clothes. If you love your water bottle, feel free to bring that, too. Classes are done barefoot on a yoga mat. If you don't have your own yoga mat, we have affordable ones to purchase or one you can borrow for the class.
We provide many props that may be needed for your class, including bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, and sandbags. However, if you prefer to use your own, you’re welcome to bring them along!
We recommend arriving at least 10-15 minutes early. This allows you time to check in, settle onto your mat, and take a few moments to breathe before class begins.
Pricing & Memberships
A single class is priced at $22. New students can take advantage of our special offer, 2 weeks of unlimited yoga for $49.
Yes! Our Intro Unlimited Yoga Membership for $100 per month allows you to attend as many classes as you desire each month. It’s perfect for those who want to deepen their practice and explore various styles. We offer many other pricing options to fit all budgets.
Wellness Services
Although our studio is a traditional, meditative-style studio, we are more than just a yoga studio; we’re a holistic wellness center. Along with our diverse yoga offerings, we provide integrative services, including massage therapy and acupuncture, fostering a comprehensive approach to health in a supportive community environment.
Our popular services include group yoga classes, personalized yoga sessions, therapeutic massages, rejuvenating facials, and acupuncture treatments. Many visitors enjoy combining yoga with these services for a complete wellness experience.
Absolutely! We encourage our clients to blend services for an enriching wellness experience. You can easily schedule your yoga class alongside a massage, facial, or acupuncture session for ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation.
